Baby cashmere blankets are all the rage right now. I’m not quite sure why because these blankets are harder to care for than other baby blankets. Cashmere is a fabric that is washable, but it needs to be carefully hand washed with special detergent. You should also lay flat to dry. Don’t put the blanket in the dryer or it could drastically shrink. Most baby blankets will be washed often because the baby will be spitting up and getting food on it etc. If you have to carefully wash this cashmere, I’m not sure you would want it except for very special occasions and then for just a little while. Cashmere is extremely soft, but forget about it as a blanket.
Cashmere baby blankets aren’t inexpensive either. Cashmere is one of the most expensive fabrics you can buy so they don’t make the best baby shower gifts. Why not get other baby stuff that you know the mother and baby need and want. Find something that will complete the nursery or how about some cute baby bedding for the crib? The worst thing you could do is to give the mom baby gifts that need extra special attention unless it is meant to be an heirloom and special keepsake. Then she can put the blanket away when her baby is grown and give it to her. So, think before you purchase cashmere for a baby.
